He once again became the presidential candidate for the National Party after defeating former first lady Ana García de Hernández, wife of former president Juan Orlando Hernández, in the 2025 primaries.

He became President of the Republic of Honduras after being declared the winner by the National Electoral Council (CNE) in the General Elections of November 30, 2025.

In the last elections, he was elected with 40.27% of the vote after a close race against Salvador Nasralla, who obtained 39.53%, a difference of less than 1%. Congresswoman María Antonieta Mejía, one of the elected presidential appointees, in her capacity as spokesperson for the government of Tito Asfura, has reported that the Presidential Transfer of Power event scheduled for January 27, 2026, will be held in a modest ceremony before the members of the National Congress, unlike the traditional inauguration at the National Stadium, noting that the Tito Asfura administration prefers a “symbolic and discreet” event, and refrains from holding an economically costly event.

Private Meeting with President Donald J. Trump at Mar-a-Lago

February 7, 2026

President Nasry Tito Asfura was invited by U.S. President Donald J. Trump to a meeting at his private residence, Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida. President Trump expressed his support for Asfura in the days leading up to the 2025 general elections, declaring him his preferred candidate for the Honduran presidency.

The private meeting has been interpreted as a significant recognition by the U.S. of Honduras as a strategic ally in the region. Honduran Foreign Minister Mireya Agüero de Corrales accompanied President Asfura.

The meeting addressed key issues such as trade, investment, security cooperation, and bilateral relations with the U.S. Among the topics discussed were the review of U.S. tariffs imposed starting in 2025, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Hondurans in the United States, and an agreement to strengthen cooperation against organized crime and enhance regional security.

INTEROCEANIC TRAIN: Among the topics discussed, the Interoceanic Train project stood out—a long-standing project in Honduras that no government has yet been able to implement. President Nasry Asfura took the opportunity to present the ambitious project, for which several studies have already been conducted.

“I showed him a map of Honduras with the possible route for a railway. He kept the map. We talked about investment, significant investment for Honduras, about generating employment opportunities and attracting foreign investment of all kinds,” stated President Nasry Asfura.
