President elect Nasry Tito Asfura began his first day as leader of the nation by signing 3 decrees approved by the National Congress and appointing the first members of his Government Members for the period 2026-2030.

Presidential Designees or Vice President

The role of the Presidential Designees is primarily regulated by Article 242 of the Honduran Constitution, which establishes that they are elected jointly with the president as part of the same ticket.

Their essential function is to replace the president in case of temporary or permanent absence. If the absence is temporary, the president may delegate functions to one of the designees, but if the absence is permanent, the National Congress is responsible for electing one of the three to complete the presidential term.

In the extreme case of the absence of both the president and all three designees, the Executive branch would be assumed provisionally by the president of the National Congress or, failing that, by the president of the Supreme Court of Justice.

Outside of these scenarios, the Constitution does not assign any specific administrative functions to the Presidential Designees; that is, they do not head ministries nor do they have automatic executive powers. Their operational role depends exclusively on the responsibilities that the sitting president decides to delegate to them.

The legal framework also establishes that presidential appointees cannot be removed at the president’s discretion, since they were elected by popular vote; they can only leave office through voluntary resignation, legal incapacity, or impeachment, in accordance with the law.

Ambassadors of Israel and the European Union

President Nasry Asfura, along with the newly appointed Foreign Minister of Honduras, Mireya Agüero de Corrales, received the credentials of Nadav Goren, ambassador of Israel, and Gonzalo Fournier, ambassador of the European Union (EU).

Reinstatement to ICSID

The purpose of generating legal certainty for foreign investors, the Government of Honduras sent a letter of intent to Martina Polasek, Secretary General of the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), in which it shows a formal intention to rejoin this agreement.
