Municipality of Distrito Central

It is a municipality in the Department of Francisco Morazán, in the Republic of Honduras.

We go back to the first report of Governor Alonso de Contreras Guevara, who mentions that in 1578 a mineral was discovered and settled, which they called Tegucigalpa. Since it doesn’t have an exact founding date, it was attributed the date of September 29 in honor of Saint Michael the Archangel.

In 1825, with the first territorial division, it was listed as one of the seven departments. In 1880, it was granted the title of capital of the Republic. Currently, it is known as the Municipal Mayor’s Office of the Central District, constitutionally formed by the cities of Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela.
